The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu, commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a famous poet from the Warring States period. Legends say that after he drowned himself in the Miluo River, people paddled boats and threw zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) into the river to deter fish from eating his body. Today, the festival is celebrated with dragon boat races, zongzi-making, and wearing artemisia.
