The Qixi Festival, also known as the Chinese Valentine's Day, is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. It is believed to be the day when the weaving fairy, known as Lady Cowherd, and the god of heaven, known as the Cowherd, were allowed to be together across the Milky Way.

**Origin of Qixi Festival:**

The origin of the Qixi Festival can be traced back to the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaving Fairy. According to the story, the Cowherd was a mortal who was separated from his wife, the Weaving Fairy, after he was elevated to heaven as a celestial god. The only way for them to meet was on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, when the magpies would form a bridge across the Milky Way to allow them to be together.

**Customs of Qixi Festival:**

1. **Lantern Raising:** During the Qixi Festival, young women would hang colorful lanterns and make paper cuttings of magpies, symbolizing the mythical bridge across the Milky Way.

2. **Qixi Ritual:** Couples would perform a Qixi ritual, which includes lighting candles, offering fruit and tea to the Cowherd and the Weaving Fairy, and writing love letters to express their feelings.

3. **Bridal Dress Viewing:** Women would dress up in their best attire and go out to watch other women wearing bridal dresses, hoping to get married in the near future.

4. **Wishing for a Good Husband:** Young women would look at their reflection in a bowl of water on the evening of the festival to predict their future husband's features.

5. **Qixi Balls:** In some areas, young people would gather at night and play Qixi balls, where they would exchange letters and poems to find potential marriage partners.

6. **Star Gazing:** Young women would gaze at the stars, particularly the "Weaving Fairy" and "Cowherd" stars, and hope for good luck in their love life.

7. **Love Stories Sharing:** Families would gather to listen to the story of the Cowherd and the Weaving Fairy, passing on the tradition and values associated with the festival.

The Qixi Festival is not only a celebration of love and romance but also a time to honor traditional values and customs. It continues to be celebrated across China and among Chinese communities worldwide.
