The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, which falls on different dates in June according to the Gregorian calendar each year.

There are various legends regarding the origins of the Dragon Boat Festival. The most famous is that it commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a prominent poet and politician of the Warring States period in ancient China. Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River because he was heartbroken by the betrayal and downfall of his nation. To prevent fish from consuming his body, people rowed their boats along the river, beat drums, and threw bamboo leaves into the water, where the leaves are said to transform into dragon-like figures, leading the fish away.
The celebration involves various activities such as racing dragon boats, eating sticky rice dumplings (zongzi), and wearing an herb sachet, among others. It has become an integral part of Chinese culture and is observed with much festivity in various countries, particularly among Chinese communities worldwide.
