Last week, I had the opportunity to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, with my family. This traditional Chinese holiday is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, and it has a rich history and various customs.

During the festival, we prepared zongzi, a sticky rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves. It was a fun and challenging process, as we had to learn how to properly wrap the leaves and tie the strings. We also enjoyed eating other delicious foods, such as salted eggs and bamboo shoots.
In the morning, we watched a dragon boat race, a highlight of the festival. The teams were dressed in colorful costumes and paddled with great enthusiasm. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and cheers from the crowd.
We also visited a temple to pay our respects to Qu Yuan, the poet who is said to have drowned himself in the Miluo River. It was a solemn occasion, and we offered incense and prayed for peace and prosperity.
In the evening, we hung mugwort and calamus around our home to ward off evil spirits. We also enjoyed dragon boat-shaped lanterns and watched a dragon dance performance.
The Dragon Boat Festival was a memorable experience, filled with cultural traditions and family bonding. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about my heritage and appreciate the beauty of this ancient festival.
