"天尊地卑，乾坤定矣。卑高以陈，贵贱位矣。动静有常，刚柔断矣。方以类聚，物以群分，吉凶生矣。在天成象，在地成形，变化见矣。是故刚柔相摩，八卦相荡，鼓之以雷霆，润之以风雨，日月运行，一寒一暑。乾道成男，坤道成女。乾知大始，坤作成物。"

"Heaven is honored and the earth is humble; the creation of Qian (heaven) and Kun (earth) is established. The humble and the noble are arranged, and the positions of the high and the low are determined. There is a constant order in movement and stillness, and the distinction between the strong and the soft is clear. Things are gathered by their nature, and objects are divided into groups; thus, good and evil arise. In the sky, there are images formed; on the earth, there are shapes created; and changes are evident. Therefore, the strong and the soft interact with each other, the eight trigrams clash, and they are beaten by thunder and moistened by rain and wind. The sun and the moon move, bringing cold and heat. The Qian principle creates males, and the Kun principle creates females. Qian knows the great beginning, and Kun accomplishes the creation of things."

"易有太极，是生两仪，两仪生四象，四象生八卦。八卦定吉凶，吉凶生大业。是故蓍之德，圆而神，卦之德，方以智。六爻发挥，旁通情也。刚柔相推，变化见矣。是故吉凶生而大业著矣。"

"The Book of Changes has the Taiji, which gives rise to the two polarities. The two polarities give rise to the four symbols, and the four symbols give rise to the eight trigrams.
