Once upon a time, the gods in heaven decided to hold a race to choose the twelve animals that would represent the Chinese zodiac. All the animals of the world were excited to participate, except for the Dog.

The Dog was not fast and was known for its loyalty and honesty. It believed that the race was not a fair competition since it was not the fastest. However, it decided to enter the race with its tail between its legs, not expecting to win but hoping to make the journey fun.

On the day of the race, the animals gathered at the starting line. The Dragon, the fastest animal in the world, led the pack. The Tortoise, known for its patience, was also eager to win. The rest of the animals, each with their unique abilities, waited to see who would come in first.

The race began, and the animals sprinted across the field. The Dragon soared through the air, leaving a trail of fire behind. The Tortoise moved slowly but surely, never losing its concentration. The other animals gave their best, but none could keep up with the leaders.

As the race went on, the Dog was at the very back, trying its best to stay in the race. Suddenly, a hare came along and suggested that the Dog ride on its back to catch up with the rest. The Dog was hesitant but agreed, grateful for the help.

Together, the Dog and the Hare made good progress, slowly catching up with the Tortoise. But the Dog knew that riding on the Hare was not fair. So, it jumped off and continued to run on its own, determined to win the race by itself.

In the end, the Dog did not win the race, but it reached the finish line ahead of the Hare, who was now too tired to go on. The Dog was happy to have participated, and the gods in heaven were impressed with its determination and integrity.

For its bravery and honesty, the Dog was honored and placed eleventh in the Chinese zodiac. From that day on, the Dog was known as a symbol of loyalty, honesty, and the spirit of never giving up.
