The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday that has a rich history and origin. It is believed to have originated from the 5th century BC during the Warring States period in China.

The most widely accepted story of the festival's origin is associated with the death of the ancient Chinese poet and statesman Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a loyal minister of the state of Chu, and he was betrayed and exiled by his rivals. Fearing for his life, he drowned himself in the Miluo River in protest against the corruption and the decline of his beloved state.

According to legend, the local people, who were sorry for Qu Yuan's death, rushed out in boats to search for his body. They threw粽子 (sticky rice dumplings) into the river to feed the fish, hoping that the fish would not eat Qu Yuan's body. They also beat drums and played flutes to scare away the fish and other river creatures.

Another story connects the festival to the birth of a dragon boat racing, which was created to honor the divine dragon who saved Qu Yuan from drowning.

Today, the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by dragon boat races, eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), and wearing the Chinese herbal medicinal herb artemisia to ward off evil spirits. It's a time for Chinese people to remember their history and the culture that binds them together.
