The Dragon Boat Festival and Qu Yuan's Story

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. One of the most famous legends associated with this festival is the story of Qu Yuan.
Qu Yuan was a great poet and statesman in the Warring States period of ancient China. He was deeply concerned about the country's future and tried to reform the government. However, his efforts were in vain, and he was eventually exiled by the king.
While in exile, Qu Yuan was deeply distressed by the state of his country. On the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, he drowned himself in the Miluo River, as he could no longer bear the sorrow of his nation's plight.
To prevent fish from eating Qu Yuan's body, local people raced dragon boats and threw zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) into the river. This became the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, which is celebrated every year to honor Qu Yuan and his love for his country.
