The goat, which was nimble and resourceful, climbed the riverbank and reached the shore before the horse.
The monkey, a playful and intelligent creature, swung from tree to tree, reaching the shore just in time to see the rooster approaching.
The rooster, which was proud and confident, crowed loudly as it approached the shore. It was the first to reach the heavenly palace, securing the first place in the zodiac.
The dog, loyal and brave, followed closely behind the rooster. It was the second to reach the shore and the second in the zodiac.
Finally, the pig, which was kind-hearted and easygoing, waddled through the river and reached the shore. It was the last to reach the heavenly palace, but it was still a winner, securing the twelfth and final place in the zodiac.
From that day forward, the order of the Chinese zodiac was set, and each animal represented a year in the cycle. The rat, as the clever winner, represented the first year, followed by the ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. This cycle continues to this day, and people celebrate their birth animal according to the Chinese zodiac.
