The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Its origins can be traced back to the memory of Qu Yuan, a famous poet and statesman from the Warring States period.

According to legend, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River after being betrayed and exiled by his king. Local people rushed to save him but failed. To prevent fish from eating his body, they threw rice into the river. Later, they used dragon boats to search for his body and threw rice dumplings into the water as offerings.
Today, the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated with various activities. Dragon boat races are the most popular, symbolizing the search for Qu Yuan. People also eat zongzi, sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, as a tribute to the poet. Additionally, they hang calamus leaves and mugwort on doors to ward off evil spirits.
The Dragon Boat Festival is not only a time to remember the great poet Qu Yuan but also a chance to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of China.
