**Brief Introduction to Qingming Festival:**

The Qingming Festival has its roots in ancient China, with origins dating back to the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BC). It is a time when people pay their respects to their ancestors by cleaning tombs, offering food and paper offerings, and burning incense. The festival also marks the beginning of spring and is associated with the customs of planting trees and enjoying outdoor activities.

**The Legend of Jie Zitui:**

The story of Jie Zitui is one of the most famous legends associated with the Qingming Festival. According to the tale, Jie Zitui was a loyal and virtuous minister during the Spring and Autumn period (771-476 BC). He was known for his selflessness and willingness to sacrifice for the greater good.

The story goes that when Jie Zitui's king became greedy and tyrannical, he decided to execute Jie for his disloyalty. However, Jie managed to escape and hide in the mountains. The king, realizing his mistake, sent soldiers to find and kill him. To protect Jie, his mother hid him in a cave, and the soldiers set the mountain ablaze to force Jie out.

Tragically, Jie Zitui emerged from the cave, only to be engulfed by the flames. His mother, who had remained in the cave, was also killed in the fire. The king, upon learning of the tragedy, was deeply remorseful and ordered a day of mourning to honor Jie Zitui's sacrifice.

This event is said to have occurred on the day that later became known as Qingming. To commemorate Jie Zitui's loyalty and self-sacrifice, people began to observe the Qingming Festival by cleaning tombs and offering tribute to their ancestors, as a way to honor the spirit of Jie Zitui.

Today, the Qingming Festival remains an important time for Chinese people to remember their ancestors and to celebrate the cycle of life and death. It is a day filled with respect, remembrance, and the renewal of life.
