The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. It originated from the memory of Qu Yuan, a famous poet and statesman during the Warring States period. Qu Yuan was known for his patriotism and moral integrity. When he was exiled, he drowned himself in the Miluo River in despair. The local people raced dragon boats to save him and threw zongzi, a sticky rice dumpling, into the river to feed the fish, hoping to keep them away from Qu Yuan's body. Since then, the Dragon Boat Festival has become a day to honor Qu Yuan's spirit and to celebrate the spirit of courage and loyalty.
