The Origin of Qingming Festival

The Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, has a rich history in China. According to legend, it originated from the ancient practice of honoring ancestors. The story goes that during the Warring States period, a loyal minister named Jie Zitui jumped into a fire to save his king. The king survived, but Jie Zitui was cremated. In memory of Jie Zitui's loyalty, the king ordered that his tomb be swept and honored every year. This tradition gradually evolved into the Qingming Festival, where people pay their respects to their ancestors by cleaning tombs, offering food, and burning paper money.
