**Origin of Qixi Festival:**

The Qixi Festival has its roots in a romantic legend. According to the story, there was a cowherd named Niulang and a weaver girl named Zhinu. They fell in love, but were separated by the Milky Way. The only way they could meet was once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, when magpies would form a bridge across the Milky Way for them.

The story of Niulang and Zhinu was later deified, and they became the celestial couple, known as the "Weaving Maid" and the "Cowherd King." The Qixi Festival commemorates their love and the union of true love.

**Customs of Qixi Festival:**

1. **Star Gazing:** On the night of the Qixi Festival, young women would look up at the stars and make wishes for a good marriage. They would especially observe the stars Vega and Altair, which are believed to represent the Weaving Maid and the Cowherd King.

2. **Begging for a Good Husband:** Young women would write their names on red paper and hang them on trees or windows, hoping to attract a good husband.

3. **Making and Offering "Qixi Rice Pudding":** People would make a special rice pudding called "Qixi Rice Pudding" and offer it to the Weaving Maid and the Cowherd King, hoping for their blessings.

4. **Marriage Prophecies:** Some people would read fortunes or consult with fortune tellers to predict their future marriages.

5. **Qixi Lanterns:** People would light lanterns and release them into the sky, symbolizing the release of their wishes and the union of their love.

6. **Qixi Ballads and Plays:** Traditional Qixi ballads and plays would be performed to celebrate the festival and spread the story of the Weaving Maid and the Cowherd King.

The Qixi Festival is a time for celebrating love and marriage, and it remains a popular tradition in many parts of China today.
