The Qixi Festival, also known as the Chinese Valentine's Day, is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. It has a rich history and various legends associated with it.

**Origin of Qixi Festival:**

The festival's origin can be traced back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). According to a popular legend, Qixi Festival was established to celebrate the love story of two celestial lovers, Zhinü and Niulang.

**The Legend of Zhinü and Niulang:**

The story goes that Zhinü was a beautiful and skillful weaver who lived in the heavens. She was in love with Niulang, a cowherd who lived on Earth. However, the gods were against their love and separated them, placing a vast river called the Milky Way between them.

Zhinü was heartbroken and appealed to the Queen Mother of the West for help. The Queen Mother was moved by her love and allowed them to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, when the magpies would form a bridge across the Milky Way to help them cross.

Since then, the Qixi Festival has become a day for young people to express their love and seek blessings for their own romantic relationships. It is also a time for families to celebrate and appreciate the importance of love and marriage.

**Customs and Activities of Qixi Festival:**

- **Making and Offering Qizis:** Qizis are small paper or fabric figures of Zhinü and Niulang. Young women would make these figures and offer them to the gods, hoping to find a good husband or improve their weaving skills.

- **Listening to the Rain:** It is believed that on the night of the Qixi Festival, the rain that falls is the tears of Zhinü. Listening to the rain is considered a romantic activity.

- **Stargazing:** Young women would look at the stars, especially the two brightest stars in the sky, which are believed to be Zhinü and Niulang. They would wish for a good marriage or a romantic relationship.

- **Eating Qixi Noodles:** In some regions, people eat noodles on the Qixi Festival, as noodles symbolize longevity and happiness.

The Qixi Festival is a time for love, hope, and dreams. It is a celebration of the enduring power of love and the belief in the possibility of finding true love.
